The Commission sets out cooperation priorities for the Eastern and the Southern Neighbourhood for coming years

Following consultation with partner countries, EU member States and the European Parliament, the European Commission has taken decisions providing important EU funding to the partners in the EU Neighbourhood in the coming years. (…)To Armenia, the indicative allocation for the period 2014-2017 is between €140,000,000-€170,000,000.

French lawmakers visit Nagorno Karabakh

On September 8, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Karen Mirzoyan received the delegation of the Parliament of France.

Karen Mirzoyan welcomed the members of the delegation, stressing the importance of such visits for the consistent development and strengthening of bilateral relations.  In this context, the NKR Foreign Minister touched upon issues related to the activities of the France-Artsakh Friendship Circle established in 2013.

Austrian Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs Sebastian Kurz has arrived in Yerevan for a two-day working visit at the invitation of Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian. The two Ministers met in Yerevan today to discuss issues on bilateral agenda and refer to regional and international developments. The meeting was followed by a joint press conference.

NATO seemed to give preference to the principle of territorial integrity in the final declaration adopted as a result of the Summit in Wales. Commenting on this, Minister Nalbandian said: “NATO has stated on many occasions that it’s not engaged in the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Furthermore, it has expressed support for the approaches and efforts of the co-chairing countries.

 

Reform? Opposition says Armenia faces greater challenges than changes to the Constitution

Despite President Serzh Sargsyan’s claims that arguments against the constitutional reforms are not serious, the opposition continues presenting their views against those reforms. 
But both former presidents Levon Ter-Petrosyan and Robert Kocharyan have argued against the need for constitutional reforms in Armenia at present. Ter-Petrosyan even said in one of his recent interviews that “the issue of the constitutional reform is a sort of watershed between the dictatorial regime and healthy forces of the society, a problem on whose solution the future of Armenia and Karabakh depends.”

World’s Northernmost Armenian Church Opens in Yakutsk

An Armenian Apostolic church has opened in Russia’s icy Yakutia region, Novosti-Armenia reports, citing RIA Novosti. The new church, named Saint Karapet, was commissioned in June of 2011 to be built in the city of Yakutsk. All of the building materials for the church have been transported from Armenia (…).
