Arzumanyan: Economic system proposed by EU is much more advantageous to Armenia

Armenia should not join the Customs Union, particularly in view of the sanctions against Russia, MP, ex-Foreign Minister of Armenia Alexander Arzumanyan told reporters in Yerevan.

“The situation has completely changed since the announcement about Armenia’s joining the Customs Union one year ago. Armenia can maneuver and not join any union against which the EU and U.S. have imposed sanctions,” Arzumanyan noted.

Armenian president paying working visit to UK, to attend NATO summit-related events

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan is paying a working visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, his press office said on Wednesday. 
On September 4, the Armenian leader will attend a meeting of heads of State and government of NATO-member States and nations involved in International Security Assistance Forces in Afghanistan /ISAF/ in Newport on the margins of the upcoming NATO summit. Sargsyan will deliver a speech at the meeting.

French National Assembly member Valérie Boyer has introduced a new bill on criminalizing the denial of genocides and crimes against humanity that were committed in the 20th century, reported the French-Armenian Nouvelles d’Arménie magazine.

What better way for two leaders to reinforce their alliance than by pledging to lie for one another on the international arena?

That’s what happened Tuesday when newly-minted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Baku and said that Turkish-Armenian relations would not be normalized until a resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict that would be beneficial for Azerbaijan, further pledging to work toward the goal of pressuring Armenia to return territories it claims Armenia is occupying.

Russian, Armenian Troops Start Joint Drills

More than 1,500 Armenian and Russian soldiers began annual joint military exercises in central Armenia on Wednesday, highlighting close military ties between their countries.

The five-day “tactical exercises” involve troops from the Armenian army and the Russian military base headquartered in Gyumri that are part of a Russian-Armenian “united grouping.”

“The final version of the agreement on Armenia’s entry into the EEU is ready and was sent to the governments of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia. The U.S. State Department’s spokesperson, Jen Psaki, has refused to comment on the adoption of a resolution by the California State Senate recognizing the independence of Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) Republic.

“I’m not going to have any comment on this. I promise you. It’s a state issue. Go ahead,” Psaki told a daily press briefing on Wednesday, Sept 2.

As promised, the new Turkish president made his first visit to Azerbaijan. From there, he will probably be on his way to the NATO summit in Cardiff with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev.
The Turkish leader is a regular guest in Baku. Just five months ago, he visited it as the prime minister to discuss energy issues.

Protraction of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict inadmissible, German MP says

Protraction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is inadmissible, member of the German Bundestag (parliament), the head of the Germany-South Caucasus parliamentary group, Karin Shtrents told Trend.

She stressed that Germany supports the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in accordance with the international law.

Shtrents added that another three members of the Bundestag will visit Azerbaijan in coming days to discuss the prospects for cooperation, as well as exchange views on the issues of mutual interest.
