Tert.am, September 23, 2014, https://www.tert.am/en/news/2014/09/23/lych/
British Ambassador to Armenia Katherine Jane Leach finds it difficult to answer a question concerning a possible impact of the Scottish referendum on both European and post-Soviet countries that are facing the problem of national self-determination, including Nagorno-Karabakh – whether a referendum could be a solution for such countries.
The principles of territorial integrity and national self-determination are difficult to combine in each individual case, Mrs Katherine Jane Leach told reporters on Tuesday. They are, in any case, are conflicting principles. In some cases they are easily perceived, while in other regions, with religious and ethnic problems, it is more difficult.
Asked about her stance on Nagorno-Karabakh, which has Azerbaijan as its enemy, Mrs Katherine Jane Leach stressed the need for preparing peoples for peace, which implies talks about painful mutual concessions. However, there is no avoiding it.

Turkish rebels blamed for role in Deir ez-Zor church’s blowup

Tert.am, September 23, 2014, https://www.tert.am/en/news/2014/09/23/turqagetner/
Armenian orientalists blame Turkish rebel groups for the devastating attack against the Genocide Memorial Church of Deir ez-Zor.

“Ever since the Islamists raised a wave of rebellions in Syria, Turkey took sides with the insurgents. The country then set two major tasks before itself: to topple Assad regime and to neutralize the Kurdish element in Syria, which was becoming active. It later sought to disperse the coordinated Armenian community to other parts [of the country] and to destroy the cultural and spiritual heritage belonging to the Armenians,” Turkologist Andranik Ispiryan told a news conference on Tuesday,

The expert said he isn’t absolutely sure that Turkey made immediate calls for destroying a monument in Syria but noted that the country is capable of realizing its plans will thanks to connections with the terrorists.

“The blowing up of the Holy Martyrs’ Church fits within that process, so it is quite possible that the Turkish militants who joined the terrorist have big role there,” he noted.

Vestnikkavkaza.net, September 22, 2014, https://vestnikkavkaza.net/news/politics/60238.html
Independence is an important historical achievement both for the Armenian state and for the Armenian people, but in the 23 years since the date of the declaration of the sovereignty of Armenia the country still hasn't coped with the challenges that it faced at the beginning of the 90s. Such an opinion was expressed by political scientists Richard Kirakosyan and Alexander Eskandaryan in conversation with correspondents of "Vestnik Kavkaza".
The director of the Center for Regional Research, Richard Kirakosyan, pointed out that independent life is still hard for Armenia. "The problems of the country are not in civil society, and not even just in the external threat from the frozen Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the closed borders, but in the internal problems caused by the revelry of corruption and the "facade of democracy".
